Vought AU-1 Corsair |

Hasegawa's
1/48 scale AU-1 Corsair is available online from Squadron
I have completed a another
Marine bird - the Chance Vought AU-1 Corsair from Hasegawa in 1/48 scale

Hasegawa has done a fine
job, but the kit builds up to the F4U-5 and has detail errors.
For example I corrected the layout of the instrument panel, that should be
missing the radar scope. The seat from the kit looks like a toy, so I have
refined them. The typical panels at the hood of the instrument panel are
missing too, so I scratch built them.

I also modified the wheels.
All late Navy-propbirds such as the AU, AD & F6F has pressed metal wheels
(not cast-wheels). Fortunately I had set of this style of wheels from
Hi-tech in my spares box with the correct wheels, so I combined the
Hi-tech wheels with the Tamiya tires.
The last point was the engine.

The late Double Cyclone
engine with cylindrical gear is moulded with a lot of the typical bolts,
but with "early" magnetos: cylindrical too, and not including the hood.
I married the very fine kit engine with the magnetos from Hi-tech's R-2800
powerplant.
