F/A-18C Hornet

Academy's 1/32 scale F/A-18C Hornet may be ordered online from Squadron.com

Introduction

Here is the brand new 1/32 scale Academy F/A-18C Hornet.

I built this kit from the final test shot including the kit decals and 40 page instruction manual, obtained direct from Academy.

The kit has nice proportions and great details.

Here are the kit radar details. The parts may be moved and slid as appropriate. Many decals are also included.

Assembly is very easy. I did not need to add any more details, as this kit is perfect straight from the box!

I can only offer two modelling suggestions - F.O.D covers for the intakes and caps for the exhaust nozzles. These latter items were made using a 'Heat-Press' technique on sheet styrene.

I added the F.O.D. cover and nozzle covers. These were made from heat-pressed plastic sheet, then painted with enamels

For painting this VFA-192 Hornet I used a base color of Gunze-Sangyo color H308 (with a little added blue 5%, red 5%, black 10%) / H307, raw umber oil wash and enamel paint for picking out the details.

By the way, the dark grey walk section is not decal. It was painted by masking and then finished with a matt coat.

Happy modelling and I hope you enjoy my big new Bug!

The cockpit details feature very fine moldings. The large three display monitor is decal with clear parts. The cockpit is painted using enamels

The nose gear bay also has great detail straight from the box. I did not do any extra work in this area either.

Nozzle detail. This was painted silver with clear blue, clear red and yellow, dark metallic black. Inside the nozzle is painted white and oil wash.
