Hasegawa's 1/32 scale Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-9 is available online from Squadron.com

Introduction

Here is my Dora-9, manufactured by Revell in the large scale of 1/32.

This model has a good price-performance ratio and even without extra detail sets you can make a great looking model. However, I wanted to tune my model using Aires parts including their Jumo-engine 211 assembly and a cockpit interior.

I think it was it worth it.

Construction and Painting

The aircraft lower surfaces were painted with Gunze's RLM 76 blue-grey colour after preshading with black acryl colour.

The upperside of the fuselage was painted in RLM81 and 83 with Gunze colours. Preshading and washing are similar to lower side.

The engine mount and fire wall were detailed in addition with wires of different diameters.

Instead of decals all markings are self made by self-sealing templates and brushed by airbrush.

Beside Preshading the model was washed with dark-grey oil colour.

Canopy Frames painted from inside and outside and dipped in Future. Gunze clear matt coating was the last paint work on this model. Soft pastel traces were added to the exhausts and wing cannon muzzle to finish off the weathering. The etched seatbelts were hard to bend, so I used only the fittings. The belt straps are made out of tesafilm.

After building the Jumo-engine it was brushed with “ALCLAD II”. Filtering and washing with oil–colour was the last step.Details were also added from wires and components of different diameters.

Brake lines were fitted using wire and plastic Q-Tubes.

The inside of the engine cowlings was painted with Gunze colour RLM 02. I washed it with oil colours and finished with pastel chalk. I accentuated some edges with soft graphite pencil and represented paint chipping on the cowlings and leading edge with polished metal-colour.

The base has an area from 30cm x 30cm with wooden furnishing.

Conclusion

A few hours of fun are guaranteed and the result is a great looking model , even for beginners.

The exposed motor is especially eye-catching.

Two maintenance figures are in progress but this is an other story.
