Description

This is Planet Models 1/48 scale resin model of Howard Hughes' H-1 Racing Plane "Long Wing Version" (kit #PLT 168).

This was the version Hughes used to set the USA transcontinental speed record on January 19, 1937.

The wings are painted Floquil railroad color D&H Blue, sanded with Micro-Mesh sanding pads, polished with Micro-Surface Micro-Gloss and waxed after decaling with automotive wax.

The fuselage was painted with Tamiya lacquer AS-12 bare-metal silver, sanded with micro-mesh clothes then dry brushed with Mr. Color Chrome. I used an overspray of Alclad Dark Aluminum and Tamiya brown/black to weather it slightly. No clear coats were used on the wings or fuselage. The silver doped control surfaces were oversprayed with Mr. color clear flat.

Planet Models’ Hughes H-1 Racer was a very enjoyable kit. i hope they (Planet Models) do a "short winged” version.
