Here is Tamiya's 1/48
Heinkel He 219A-7.
For this kit I used Aires detail set. This is a very packed detail set
which includes the wheel wells, cockpit, fuel cells, and wing machine
gun bays.
As one can imagine there was a lot of cutting to do on the model. The
biggest problem was the cockpit area. Since the model is tail heavy,
Tamiya made the cockpit out of die cast metal and you just dress it up,
but to use the Aires cockpit set all the die cast must be put aside and
it is up to me were to add weight so that the aircraft will sit on this
front undercarriage.
To complicate things
further I used CMK’s exterior set which included ailerons, rudders and
flaps, which made the model heavier in the tail. I added weight behind
the cockpit, in the left engine nacelle and in the spinners. I did not
find any particular problems during construction.
The only problem I have
found was during the spray of RLM75 patterns which for some reason were
not coming to my likings. I was satisfied on the third attempt. I
sprayed the model in with RLM74, 75 and black on the underside. I used
the kits decals. Please note that the model becomes heavy so take care
how to handle the model.
