The second model in my Sikorski seaplane double is the very beautiful
S-43 kit by Sword in 1/72 scale.
Again, this is a very good base, but there are some mistakes. On the
good side it's very nicely proportioned as well as well detailed and
engraved. But the distance between the wire outlets on the lower wings
is too short, so that the angle of the wires leading to the floats does
not correspond to the original.
Additionally, you have to model your own fairings to hold the wires
on both ends. Then the distances between the aileron hinges is wrong as
well as their position. Moreover the air intakes under the engine
nacelles are shaped wrongly. This is also the case with the wheel wells.
On top of this, I refined and detailed the kit, as you can see in the
pictures. The pictures probably tell more than words, as usual.
As a fan of civil aircrafts, I had to build the civil version, and I
decided on a Pan American Clipper. In the heat of the moment, I
overlooked the detail that these passenger planes did of course not have
cargo doors.
The markings are home-made (I downloaded the Sikorsky logo and
printed it on a decal
sheet) and from Aeromaster, respectively.
