Dragon's
1/35 scale Sd.Kfz. 251C is available online from Squadron
Chris Wauchop has just finished Dragon's recently released Sd.Kfz.
251 Ausf. C Schützenpanzer
kit.
Construction was generally trouble free but the instructions do have
some anomalies. These include:
-
Step 3 - The instructions suggest
that you make two sets of front wheel axles, and the attachment
position of parts is incorrect.
-
Step 5 - Rear bench diagrams are
labelled with the wrong part numbers.
-
Step 14 - It would have been nice if
the instructions advised how many track links per side.
Aside from these issues, construction was relatively straightforward.
Additions:
-
Headlight wiring from soldering wire
-
Width indicators reconstructed using
fine brass wire
-
Tool retaining strap handles added
from fine wire.
-
Radio antennae replaced with tapered
brass wire.
-
Shoulder straps on all weapons and
chin straps on helmets added using strips of lead foil.
Chris used one of the marking options supplied with the kit. He
assumed that this vehicle would have been delivered in Panzer Grey, then
the outside surfaces would have been overpainted in Dark Yellow and Red
Brown.
All paints were applied with the Testor Aztek A470 airbrush equipped
with the fine tan tip.
Tamiya XF-24 Dark Grey was used for the overall colour. The
overpainted exterior was a mixture of Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow and
XF-2 Flat White. The disruptive pattern is XF-64 Red Brown and XF-24
Dark Grey - although the Dark Grey creates the illusion of actually
being green.
The Ivory colour of the driver's compartment is mostly Tamiya X-2
Gloss white with around 2% XF-64 Red Brown.
