This is not a scale that I
would normally build, but I was challenged by a fellow modeller so I
decided to give it a go.
1/72 scale armour kits is a
relatively new venture for Dragon, and I am sure that they will do well.
Dragon's 1/72 scale
Sturmtiger is a little beauty which was assembled without any problems at
all.
The kit comprises 112 parts
in grey plastic, rubber tracks and photo-etched brass exhaust shields. One
interesting aspect was the metal upper hull. Why wasn't it plastic? Ah,
who cares, it looks fantastic!
The kit was built straight
from the box with the exception of copper wire handles for the hatches,
mesh for the engine screens and some extra detail on the munitions crane.
Painting,
Weathering and Base
|
Now
to the best part - painting!
Everything was
done using Tamiya acrylic paints applied in a typical German tri-colour
camouflage with my Testor Aztek A470 airbrush.
Weathering was
achieved using a dirty, dark brown overspray followed by a application of
MIG Productions powders to finish it off. These pastels really added
another dimension to the vehicle.
The base is
also from MIG Productions. This received similar treatment to the vehicle,
with Tamiya acrylics and a heavy dusting with MIG powders.
The figures and
from Preiser and were hand-painted using Vallejo acrylics.
I was very
happy with my first 1/72 scale armour kit. Who knows? I might even take
another trip to tiny town some time soon!
