Introduction

I love Tamiya kits. They always seem to just fall together, and their bike kits are no exception.

This big 1/12 scale kit of the Suzuki RM250 has been out of production for a long time, so I was lucky when I saw one going on E Bay and even luckier to win it at a good price!

Construction

As with all Tamiya kits, the Suzuki was a pleasure to build.

The bike was built straight from the box with only the tyres given a little rough treatment with a scalpel and coarse file to impart a used look.

Painting and Weathering

The real bike used plastic for it body fairings and mudguard. To try and duplicate that look, those parts, which were already moulded in yellow, were polished with Tamiya polishing compound. I think it gave that look that you see on a real trail bike.

Detailed painting was done as per the instructions using Tamiya Acrylics.

When it was finished it looked great, but was missing something. A trail bike when used gets dirty, sometimes very dirty. So I mixed up some Tamiya putty, added some flat Earth and some plastic cement to make up some mud. This was applied with an old brush, all around the bike and tyres. Once dry, I drybrushed the mud with lighter colours to give it some depth.

Conclusion

I hope you like my 1/12 scale Suzuki RM250. It was fun to build. It is just a pity that Tamiya have discountinued these kits. Maybe they will re release these and hopefully will offer some new releases someday soon....
