Description

Petr Buchar of Czech Master Resin has written in to explain the situation with their old and new 1/72 scale VEF I-16 kits:

I wanted to take the opportunity to comment on a kit review on our CMR model of the VEF Irbitis I-16 by Piotr Dmitruk, which appeared recently in HyperScale's Gallery.

I am sorry to advise that Piotr was in error when he said that this was the new CMR model of this aircraft. In fact he is reviewing our very old CMR model (almost 20 years old, old item number was CMR86) which we cancelled from our CMR model production last year knowing that our old model was incorrect.

CMR now produces a brand new model of the Irbitis under item number CMR152 - see for example the listing at Hannants Website.

We prepared our new model using the good information which was published in the AE 48 magazine where Mr. Irbitis has published his article on the VEF Irbitis I-16 history.

Although Piotr built the old model I like his job anyway, and I admire what he was able to do with our old and not too good model!

I have included a few photos of our new 1/72 scale VEF Irbitis I-16 kit to show how our new model looks.

The model and photos are courtesy of my friend from New Zealand, Mark Davies, who built and photographed his VEF I-16 for us.

By the way, our new kit includes a nice decal sheet with Lithuanian, Luftwaffe and Soviet marking (I-16 was flown with all of these markings).
