Here is my 1/144 scale Convair YB-60. I converted this model on a
Hobbycraft 1/144 B-36 kit.
When Convair built their two YB-60s (to compete with Boeing's B-52
design) they used about 70% of the original B-36 airframe, including the
wing, so I tried to do the same on a much smaller scale.
Changes made were:
-
Removing the kit engine nacelles and
filling the spaces
-
Cutting and sweeping the wing back 38
degrees and adding new inboard leading edges
-
Removing and filling the lower
forward fuselage radome
-
Adding new sheet styrene wingtips
-
Added Cutting Edge resin NB-52 engine
nacelles
-
Scratchbuilding new tail surfaces and
engine pylons from sheet plastic
-
Cast new resin nose and tail cones
-
Adding a scratchbuilt aft taxi strut
-
Using a toothpick for the instrument
probe
The finish is mostly Alclad, some decals are from the kit, some
custom printed by Draw Decal.
Building the model was fun but time consuming. I've always thought the
YB-60 was a beautiful looking machine and just had to have one.
