Construction

Here is Academy's 1/48 scale Hawker Hunter FGA.9

The Hunter was built using the KMC resin cockpit detail set and the extensive Flightpath detail set. The KMC cockpit was considered to be far superior in detail than the Flightpath etched metal cockpit as it has almost everything moulded in place accurately when compared to cockpit photographs.

The Flightpath set was used to extensively detail the exterior adding accurate detail or replacement parts to the following areas;

  • Engine compressor,

  • Engine exhaust,

  • Flaps,

  • Speed brake,

  • Fuel Tanks,

  • Rockets,

  • Matra Pods,

  • Wheel wells,

  • Undercarriage, Undercarriage doors, and Wheels.

The additions to the wheel wells and flaps are stunning and really look the part. The replacement metal undercarriage is a vast improvement, but the legs struggle to support the addition weight added by all the metal parts and resin fuel tanks.

To finish off the canopy was replace with the thin vac formed Squadron replacement canopy.

Painting and Markings

The kit was finished in the excellent decals provided in the Flightpath set.

The markings depict Hunter FGA.9 Serial No XE624 of 234 SQN, No1 Tactical Weapons Unit, RAF Bawdy during 1984. The model is finished in Xtra Color paints.
