Construction

I have built a few M113 carriers over the years, and here is my latest.

The model is based on the Tamiya 1/35 scale M113 ACAV kit with the addition of the Aussie Bits T50 turret set and decals, plus Model Kasten tracks and Eduard grills.

Tamiya's M113 kit is quite nice considering its age, and it went together well. The only modification was the addition of mounting holes for the absent track guards along the bottom edge of the hull.

The T50 turret conversion was not the best, but after a lot of cleanup, gluing and sanding it did not look too bad. It is a pity that there was not more detail in the turret though.

The Model Kasten tracks are very well detailed and work well, but they are tedious to assemble.

Painting and Markings

Once the model was assembled, painting was done.

I used my Aztek A470 airbrush and Gunze paints, depicting the three-colour camouflage scheme currently in use on Australian buckets.

A dusting of dirt tones was randomly sprayed to take away that showroom-clean look, and give the appearance of a vehicle that has spent time in the field.

Conclusion

I enjoyed building this kit, and will probably build even more variants of the M113 in the future.
