Here is Tamiya's M113 kit, product number MM135.
The mode was built pretty much straight from the box. As usual, the
fit of the Tamiya parts was to a very high standard, even with this
relatively old kit.
The conversion set was from Firestorm Hobbies. This comprised
ammunition storage, a new gun shield, new upper deck hatch with
ventilation system, belly armour and the long tarp hanging from the
side.
All the resin Firestorm parts fitted well too, with minimal cleanup
required.
The figures are also from Firestorm. They are great. The parts fitted
together well and the Commander's pose is good. The only disappointment
is that they are not full figures. The legs are missing, which means
that if you position the rear hatch open to display all that terrific
internal detail, you will be confronted with some resin stumps - start
kneading that Milliput!
Painting the vehicle was simple. Olive Drab, toned down, was sprayed
overall. The Australian markings were painted by hand, followed by a
heavy oat of the dreaded red dust.
The end result is one dirty M113 that has been there and done that!
This project is recommended for both the Firestorm sets and the kit
to all Vietnam War era modellers.
