MRC's
1/35 scale UH-60L Blackhawk is available online from
Squadron.com
This is my Academy 1/35 Blackhawk finished with the
tail codes of 'Super 64', Mike Durant's Blakhawk which was shot down
over Mogadishu and made famous in the movie 'Blackhawk Down'.
The kit is not entirely accurate as it started life
as the standard UH60L and after I saw the movie I became inspired to
research the various Blackhawk versions. I had previously bought the
Cobra set for the UH60 and then decided to just add extra bits to make
it a secial ops version. Thanks to Chris Miller from Cobra Company for
supplying the bits that I needed.
I also decided to flesh the kit out with Eduard's
internal & external detail sets which I originally wanted for the cabin
seat belts but then decided to go the whole hog. So what could have been
a fairly quick project ended up taking about eight months! I just can't
seem to build anything out of the box these days.... know what I mean?
Paint used for the exterior was Testor's ModelMaster US Army helo drab and I had a hell of a job getting a
reasonable gloss coat ready for decalling.
I ended up giving it coats of
Tamiya clear gloss, Humbrol, Johnsons Klear, Testors Metalizer sealer
all on top of each other and none of them came out really glossy.
Also there are some pics of my AH6 Little Bird from DML which was also
inspired by the movie and also has a Cobra detail set (AH6J MELB).
As always, thanks to Craig Sargent for the photos.
